Melanie has worked as a professional Artist for 25 years, and is based in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire in the UK. Here, Melanie creates stunning Mosaic for public art and private commission work for a global client base.
The artist is delighted to be selected to represented England in a recent months residency where she participated in the first Global Art Festival in Gujarat, India. Here she created artwork for an Indian art collection, alongside 28 international artists.
Prior to this she won a large commission to create work based on her love of nature and to draw attention to our declining species, for residents of a new housing estate in Milton Keynes. Her work proved popular at a community open day and the work is based on the beautiful wildlife and flora of Milton Keynes, which the artist takes much of her inspiration from. She is particularly interested in using her art to get viewers of her work talking about our environment, being that so many species are in need of our assistance, including links to conservation sites and how to help with planting to aid butterfly numbers etc.
Television commission and International public art mosaics
Melanie created a well loved mosaic that is sited on the historic Grand Union Canal in Milton Keynes of a barn owl flying through local forestry, which is part of the wonderful Gyosei arts trail. All imagery was photographed locally to give the work authenticity. The locals selected Melanie at an open day where her colourful mosaic proved popular.
Chosen for her dynamic artistic style to create a Mosaic for the prime time television how hosted by Alan Titchmarsh ‘Love Your Garden’, Melanie created a stunning sunflower mosaic which was a focal point to a beautiful garden design.
Selected to represent the UK Melanie worked alongside 60 International and 20 Chilean artists they decorated the Town Hall in Puente Alto in Santiago, with a stunning Mosaic based on the flora and fauna of Chile. The mosaic attracts visitors from around the world!
A brief working History
After completing a BA in Textile Design, Melanie worked as a full time studio designer where she hand drew and painted wall coverings and fabrics for a global market, working to strict briefs as well as developing new contemporary artwork for wall paper collections. Melanie developed a great skill for drawing and design which has helped enormously with her execution of her current Mosaic art work.
From here, the Artist set up her own business, creating sculptural pieces of art in clay, as well as 2D and 3D Mosaic Art. She is a strong designer and loves creating unique and bold designs that hold the viewers attention.
Awards and exbibitions
January 2018 Melanie was delighted to be invited to exhibit a contemporary mosaic at the internationally acclaimed show in Florence: MUSIWA. She was also asked to participate in a global arts festival in India to create new artwork for a collection for the Indian government.
2017 saw the artist selected to create a mosaic for the Oh Wise Owl exhibition for the National Trust.
She has participated in exhibitions around the UK with the British Association of Modern Mosaic as well as with established artists in London.
Melanie won the Chiltern Arts Award for her contribution to enabling disabled adults to access art for well being.
Her mosaic has been published recently in a book about Milton Keynes Maker Artists and also in fine art mosaic publications in the States and Netherlands.
She was a finalist for the Milton Keynes Traditional Arts Bursary.
